My kids have started another new school year, and while I welcome the improved schedule and discipline, it sure was a great summer for them, and it's sad to see it end. They are not all that excited about school, but they're not as unhappy as I expected either. They both got fantastic teachers; we really lucked out.
Jo got the same teacher Kai had for second grade and she really knows how to make the kids feel special. Since his birthday was last week, he got to start off the new school year as "King Bee" of the classroom. He got to bring in his favorite things, his favorite book, treats, and...a video about how awesome he is! T, the one with the higher higher education in film, made an amazing video for Kai when he turned seven. Jo loved it so much and has been eagerly awaiting his own video. Sadly, the higher higher education in film got T a second job this year, teaching, and took away any last vestiges of spare time. His unbelievable need for absolute perfection in his filmmaking means that even the shortest short film takes months to complete. I, having no scruples whatsoever about settling for mediocrity in the interest of time and my child's expectations, was given the project. Here's the result:
I had so much fun! I gained a new and better appreciation for my husband's industry. It's tough! And wow, I can see how one would love doing this the rest of their life. My Jo enjoyed all the filming and worked hard to remember to smile. He was so excited to see the final cut, and giggled the whole time. The kids in his class all laughed at the right parts and he was truly the King Bee for the day!
