So we had a family reunion on T's side this weekend. So much fun, and the food is always soooo good. This year, I was meant to make brownies but I changed my mind last minute. One of my friends at work made *the* cutest "sushi" last year for Christmas. It was so adorable, I just had to try it out.
It's probably pretty clear what goes into these, but in case you ever want to try them, here's a shopping list.
Swedish fish (large size)
Green fruit roll ups
Marshmallows
Red Hots (for the tobiko (fish eggs)
I would have preferred red nerds instead of red hots but they were not to be found. *sigh*)
Those nasty sugared oranges slices candy
(they come in green, red, yellow too)
Twinkies
Mini powdered donuts
This is pretty much as Japanese as I get. I spent EIGHTEEN MONTHS in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan and I can make exactly zero Japanese dishes. I can name probably three dishes and kind of explain what goes into them. Pretty sad. But *this* dish is perfect for the 和食 challenged gaijin in all of us.

I spent three years there, and I couldn't make any Japanese dishes, either. That's why I get my fix at the restaurants...ha. Miss you, Cristi!
These were gone in no time too! Everyone loved them....
Those are SO cute! That's my kind of sushi!
Kawaii!! I just have to imitate.
I love it! You are so good at stuff like that.
THEY TURNED OUT PERFECT!
