So to start out: the SUGAR BOWL.
Not sure where the name came from, although it's the best definition for this. T. buys the boys a treat nearly every Tuesday and Thursday after karate (dad's so cool...) and very often it's a lick-a-stick or baby bottle pop type treat. 'Cause our kids TOTALLY need sugar in their systems. Doesn't affect them at all... Anyway, they created the "sugar bowl" and they just love it. We just love it too, the sticky mess on the table, the countdown to the sugar hitting their system and turning them from tropical storms into full blown hurricanes, the powder that invariably hits the floor, and did you know that something as artificially colored as BRIGHT BLUE tends to stain teeth? Anyway, they're kids and they are happy kids after karate. And my naive hope is that they will someday turn down treats because it's no big deal to them. Not like those messed-up kids who never have sugar and then binge when they are set out on their own... (I was one of those messed-up kids and instead of sticking with plain old Cheerios, I have absolutely no problem giving my kids Cookie Crisps and calling it "breakfast.")
Anyway: the Sugar Bowl. Notice the glazed look in their eyes, this is where the sugar is starting to hit...
