Boyhood

I love my boys so much. I love it that they are so boy. I do have friends who would take issue with that ("what is boy behavior?") and I don't think I can explain it or defend the statement. But whatever it is that fascinates them with the garbage truck when they are 18 months old and the somehow instinctual desire to be just like Indiana Jones or Batman before or without ever seeing the movies is what makes them so boy. And I have seen this in some girls but one in a million and not even close to the intensity of Kai & Jo. And I have seen very mild, somewhat-bewildered-by-darth-vader boys too, but again, one in a million. I've absolutely nothing to back this up, so disagree if you will.

We went to the canyons while my parents were visiting to help
T. with his latest short film (and by "help," I mean star in for my dad and discover her hidden DP talent for my mom).

The boys loved it - freedom to crawl, climb, catch, run, wade, hide, explore, and two of their personal favorites: playing on Great Grandpa's truck and peeing not in the toilet (I know, so gross, but they just think that it's so funny. Someone tell me if my boys are just weird or if that, too, is a boy thing?) I read a little quote a few weeks ago:

BOY, n: a ball of energy with dirt on it

So true. And by the way, I am SO excited for another boy.

The area was just beautiful. Kai lost his brand new for school shoe in this river and we found it after much panic. They were the nice kind of shoes that grandmas buy for grandkids, not the target brand slip on ones that moms buy because they will outgrow them in a few months anyway. Kai & Jo literally spent hours in the stream, playing Indy and Mr. Freeze.

They do love mom enough to impatiently smile for a few pictures. They weren't actually able to sit still very long so this is the least blurry of the 8 or so pics I tried to take.
